Joint Replacement

SHOULDER / KNEE / HIP

As Medical Director of the Center of Excellence for Joint Surgery, I can report above-average feedback from patients after joint replacement within my team.

We operate

  • according to the latest methods,
  • minimally invasive,
  • according to patient-specific procedures and
  • surgical robots.

Shoulder Surgery

As early as 2000, I specialized in the shoulder department at the University Hospital of Vienna as an employee of the shoulder outpatient clinic.

Since that time, I have performed more than 3,000 surgeries in this field.

Autohaemotherapy

With autohaemotherapy, we can gently activate the body’s own defenses, increase the body’s self-healing powers and thus accelerate the healing process.

Completely without cortisone!

Network of specialists

I can offer my patients an excellent infrastructure and an above-average network of specialists – also across disciplines.

Necessary examinations (X-ray, MRI, CT, surgical clearances and laboratory tests) can be carried out immediately in the house.

Knee injuries

In 2013 I worked for Dr. Schenk in Schruns in the Montafon.

At Sanatorium Dr. Schenk, we have treated over 1,000 knee injuries for winter sports enthusiasts at professional and amateur level within one season. Every day, several reconstructive procedures with cruciate ligament replacement were on the surgical plan.

The new surgical technique, in which the surgeon is supported by 2 robots (Omnibot and Balancebot), opens up a new dimension in surgical joint replacement at the knee joint.

A suture on the tendons of the shoulder (most often the rotator cuff) is no longer magic thanks to the new implants and modern technology in the context of arthroscopy.

Through flexible silicone cannulas, a braided thread is inserted into the tendon using special tools. It is then anchored to the humeral head with screw anchors. The latest generation of these anchors consists of a bone-like material into which the body grows. Thus, apart from the short, knotless threads, no foreign material remains in the body.

For many years, the use of transplants on the musculoskeletal system was very controversial. Risks included rejection or transmission of viral diseases such as hepatitis or HIV.

The breakthrough has been achieved by a new technique in which the collagen fibers are gently freed from the cell nuclei. The cell nuclei are responsible for both rejection and virus reproduction. Without cell nuclei, there is no viral transmission or “foreign reaction” of the body.

Since that time, I have performed countless successful knee joint stabilizations with the use of donor tendons.

Alternatively, suturing the cruciate ligament or replacing it with quadriceps, semitendinosus or patellar tendon are also possible.

The delta prosthesis is a masterpiece of engineering – and an unconventional approach to shoulder surgery.

The problem with the replacement of the shoulder joint has always been the tendons, which are usually affected. Thus, most patients had freedom from pain or reduction after the operation, but only insufficient mobility.

This only changed with the use of the inverted shoulder (also delta) prosthesis. As a result, the center of rotation is offset so that patients can move the replaced joint without tendons. This results in freedom from pain and excellent mobility.

Dictations for this are:

  • severe arthrosis of the shoulder joint
  • non-reconstructible tears of the tendons
  • severe fractures of the shoulder in elderly patients

I am currently using the latest generation of equipment for the production of autologous blood products. The IMPACT centrifuge can be used to produce different blood products as required. To do this, the centrifuge uses intelligent programs that are controlled by light barriers.
The most common applications are:

  • Inflammation of the tendons
  • painful arthrosis
  • Muscle Fiber Tears
  • Tendon tears
  • Tennis elbow
  • Heel spur
  • etc.
The minimally invasive replacement of the hip joint was a milestone in surgical orthopaedics. The combination of new prostheses and innovative surgical approaches to the hip has resulted in the following improvements: faster resilience of the joint and return to sports, shorter length of stay in hospital, and lower complication rate (especially in the case of infections).

The components of the prosthesis have also been revised. Large heads made of ceramic or highly cross-linked polyethilene prevent dislocation of the joint, spherical sockets make the migration of the components unlikely. And finally, the use of physiological short shafts enables the application of force that is painless and without changes in the healing of the thigh.

In addition to conservative treatment of the spine (infiltration, PT, magnetic field therapy, autohaemotherapy), my team and I also offer you the complete spectrum of modern spinal surgery.

With the latest minimally invasive methods and implants, we treat the following diseases of the spine

  • Spinal disc herniation
  • Sliding vortices
  • Stenosis
  • Vertebral body fractures

Changes in the carpal tunnel lead to a painful narrowing of the median nerve. Typical symptoms are numbness of the middle fingers, pain at night, and “falling out of the hand” of objects.

With a small incision and minimally invasive decompression, the nerve can be freed. As a result, the symptoms also subside very quickly. However, sports with the affected hand should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. For tennis and golf, a break of 4 weeks should be planned.

I use a high-resolution ultrasound in the practice. This helps me not only with diagnosis and follow-up checks, but above all with targeted infiltration.

Areas of application are:

  • Hyaluronic acid therapy of the hip joint
  • Plasma treatment of the distal biceps tendon
  • Corticoid infiltration at the acromioclavicular joint
  • Autohaemotherapy of the plantar fascia
  • IMPACT Therapy for Muscle Fiber Tears
  • etc.

This ensures the success of the treatment and I get you to sports and everyday activities more quickly!

Not every meniscus tear needs to be removed. In the case of large tears on the meniscus that affect the well-flowed tissue, the tissue can be preserved with a special suture. Excluded are tears caused by axial defects or that affect the part of the periphery of the meniscus tissue that is not supplied with blood.

Special arthroscopic suturing instruments enable minimally invasive suturing of the meniscus.

In the case of painful osteoarthritis and/or restricted movement, treatment with hyaluronic acid is a good alternative form of treatment. It is important to use modern, dense preparations. The proportion of foreign protein is a good indicator of the quality of the preparation used. A plethora of suppliers of different qualities supply the market.

Do not hesitate to ask your doctor about the preparation used and the origin. The fact whether cortisone is added is also of interest.

MBST therapy is a therapeutically used development of nuclear spinning technology. In the case of injuries and age-related physical complaints, the self-healing powers should be stimulated and supported.

Applications:

  • Intervertebral disc injuries
  • Osteoporosis
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthrosis

Cold plasma therapy is an innovative, highly effective procedure that accelerates the wound healing process by up to 4 times and can also heal older, chronic wounds.

The cold plasma has an anti-inflammatory effect, inactivates germs, viruses, fungi and bacteria that hinder wound healing and stimulates cell growth.

We use this treatment mainly to

  • Faster wound healing after surgery
  • Scar treatment
  • Treatment of wound healing disorders
  • Treatment of large-scale abrasions

one.

Cold plasma is also highly effective for acne, mycoses, dermatitis, neurodermatitis, herpes and much more.

Cold plasma therapy is completely painless and, according to the current state of knowledge, free of side effects

We use the latest generation of shockwave devices that work in a focused and linear manner.

Shock waves are high-energy sound waves that are able to activate the self-healing powers in damaged tissue and thus contribute to regeneration. The treated area of the body is better supplied with blood. This promotes the formation of the body’s own messenger substances and contributes to pain relief.

Optimal areas of application are:

  • chronische Entzündungen
  • Changes in the Achilles tendon
  • Tendon irritation and bursitis
  • Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow
  • Calcareous shoulder
  • Muscle injuries
  • Heel spur
  • Pseudarthrosis
  • Fascia Therapy
  • Patellar tendinitis and Osgood Schlatter’s disease
  • Shin Leading Edge Syndrome
  • Tension in the neck and back muscles
  • Tension of the large muscles
